Website chat
A bubble on your own website, in your own colours. Every conversation lands in the same inbox as your WhatsApp and your Instagram.
What your customer sees
A small bubble in the corner of your website. She opens it, gives her name, email, phone number, and types her question. She gets an answer in seconds, from what you have told minidesk about your business — at eleven at night, on a Sunday, while your shop is shut.
In the morning that conversation is sitting in your inbox beside everything else, with her name on it and a number somebody can call back. If she has written to you before on WhatsApp or by email, it is the same customer — one person, one history, not two entries you have to reconcile.
One line, any website
This is the whole installation. It works on a WordPress site, a Wix site, a Squarespace site, and a site we built for you — and it does not slow your pages down, because it loads after everything else has drawn.
<script src="https://minidesk.co/api/web-chat/widget.js" data-minidesk-key="your-site-key" defer></script>Your own key replaces your-site-key. You will find the finished line, ready to copy in one press, under Settings → Marketplace → Website chat once you are signed in.
Where to paste it
WordPress
2 minutes- Sign in to your WordPress admin — usually your website address with /wp-admin on the end.
- In the left menu, click Appearance, then Theme File Editor.
- On the right, click the file called footer.php.
- Scroll to the bottom and find the line that says </body>.
- Paste the snippet on the line just above it.
- Click Update File.
If your theme updates itself, the snippet can be wiped out. If you would rather not touch theme files at all, install the free plugin WPCode, open Code Snippets, add a new snippet, choose HTML, paste it there and set the location to Site Wide Footer. That survives updates.
Wix
2 minutes- Open your Wix dashboard and click Settings in the left menu.
- Scroll down to Advanced and click Custom Code.
- Click Add Custom Code at the top right.
- Paste the snippet into the box.
- Under Add Code to Pages choose All pages, and under Place Code in choose Body - end.
- Give it a name so you can find it again — Website chat — and click Apply.
Custom Code needs a paid Wix plan with your own domain connected. On a free Wix site the menu is there but the code never runs.
Squarespace
1 minute- Open your Squarespace site and click Settings in the left menu.
- Click Advanced, then Code Injection.
- Paste the snippet into the box marked Footer.
- Click Save at the top left.
Code Injection is on the Business plan and above. On a Personal plan the box is not there.
A website built in minidesk Studio
Nothing to do- Nothing to paste. The bubble is on by default.
- Already published? Press Publish once more and it goes out with your pages.
This is the one place the snippet above does not go. We put it there for you.
Website chat is included with every business. See what it can do or go back to the marketplace.
